4 medium sized potatoes, or
3 medium sized potatoes and
1 sweet potato
1 carrot
4 rashes of bacon or
1/4 pack of cooking bacon bits
1 tin baked beans
1/2 medium onion
Grated cheese to cover
1 dollop of butter and a splash of milk for the smash
Prep time- 10 mins
cooking time- 30 mins
1.Peel and chop the potatoes and carrot and put them on the hob to boil.
2.Peel and chop the onion.
3. Fry off the onion until soft and golden brown and
4. Fry off the bacon bits.
5. Add the onions, bacon and beans to a casserole dish.
6. Heat the grill to a medium- high setting
7. When the potatoes and carrot have cooked, drain and them and mash with the milk and butter.
8. Add the mashed veg evenly to the top of the casserole dish.
9. Add the grated cheese (Use a stronger cheese if you're using hidden veg mash)
10. Grill for about 7-10 mins until the cheese is a golden brown and the beans have warmed through.
Variations
- Use mixed bean and or baked beans.
- Use hidden vegetable mash on top- swedes and sweet potato can be easily hidden in normal potato mash, especially if you add in a carrot as the bright orange masks any colour change.
- Use a variety of cheeses in or on the mash
