£10 Challenge: Day 3

Money to start: £10
Money Spent: £9.74
Money Left: 26p

It's day 3, and it hasn't been a traditional Sunday..

Normally I'd cook a roast dinner, but cooking a full roast dinner just isn't possible on £10 for a week, as it would account for about 80% of it. My original plan was to make a bake bean bake instead ( see easy beany bacon bake), albeit minus the bacon, but my boyfriend Mark (of Shoujiki Media) couldn't come for lunch due to his workload. With no-one to help it eat it I decided to finish off yesterday's stews instead. I jazzed the stew up with a few Moroccan spice and chilli.

I'm sorry if you're sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for my assessment of value wheat biscuits today because I don't know yet; when I go up this morning I decided that cinnamon toast was the way to go for brunch. Wheat biscuits tomorrow before work though, so stay tuned.

I had about 90g of self-raising flour left in the cupboard, so I decided to make some biscuits, mostly because I was bored. Because there wasn't much flour I made the mix up with porridge oats. This made a rather strange textured mix that I made into little oaty mountains rather than flat biscuits. On the bright side they taste good, and I have a few more snacks for the rest of the week.

Things I've done differently to save money:

  • No roast dinner. Saving: about £8
Meals Today
Brunch (a late meal between breakfast and lunch): cinnamon toast, a handful of sultanas
Dinner: Curried up stew, a peach yoghurt.
Snacks: 4 bourbons biscuits, 1 square of chocolate (it's still awful), 4 oaty mountains
Drinks: Water, 1x squash
Supper: Home made chips
